I have a desktop (xp) that is connected to DSL, directly to the modem. It cannot obtain an IP from the telco. The NIC is set to obtain IP and DNS automatically. Installing a new NIC makes no difference. It reports it is connected, but with an IP of 0.0.0.0.
If I connect another computer to the same modem, it will obtain an IP correctly. I set that IP and DNS info manually into the original computer and it is now connected fine. This is only a temporary fix as sooner or later the ISP will change the IP to that account.
I ran a winsockfix also. What could cause this system to not obtain an IP but once past that problem, connects fine?
Thanks
