Dear all,

I've a problem with my new Barebone PC ASUS P2-M2A690G. This moring i was able to boot it with a PS 2 Keyboard. This was an old fashion one, which i wanted to replace with an USB Keyboard but everytime i plug in the USB Keyboard the booting stops during POS.
The last message on the screen is:
"00 USB Mass storage devices found and configured"

I then made some changes to the BIOS (legacy USB and other settings) and after hitting F10 to save and Exit (AMI Bios) the BIOS freezes. No more reaction. I turned the computer off and on again and now the system keeps on halting everytime after that message above.

The big problem is: After pressing the DEL key the text "Entering Setup" appears but the BIOS get's not loaded.
STRG+ALT+DEL still does work.

After that i cleared the CMOS as described in the manual (Remove Battery, set Jumper, wait for 10-15 Seconds, reinsert Battery). But i still can not get into the bios und the computer doesn't but with the last message displaying as stated above "00 USB Mass...."

I tried without any Keyboard, with PS2 only, with USB only and with USB over PS2 adapter but everytime the same.
I also tried to press F1 since i remember that this is the key to continue after an error.

Any advice is appreciate. Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to TSF,

I would start by clearing the CMOS and then booting with no keyboard attached. Post back if it still displays the same error message when you do that.

thanks for your answers.

Yes, i did unplug the power connector when resetting the cmos.

When i then turn on the computer with nothing attached besides the monitor it gives one short beep (like usual), then the ASUS logo appears and below the text "Press TAB to see POST Message, Press DEL to enter setup".

When i've a keyboard attached it's the same. I can also see all three lights of the keyboard blinking one time, shortly after that the num light on the keyboard is going on. I then see the same screen then above.

If i press DEL or TAB it shows me the POST Messages with the last one beeing "00 USB Mass Storga devies found and configured".
The only actions i can then do which are resulting in a visual effect ist pressing F8 which enables some kind of Boot Popup (the text that its enabled appears but nothing happens) and CTRL ALT ENTF which reboots the machine.

If i press DEL directly multiple times after turning on the machine i get directly to the above POST messages, but not in the BIOS setup...

Im not sure if the computer can successfully post. I'm missing the second beep. At least i remember that a computer beeps 2 times during POST.

What i can say is that i don't see any error Message, the thing with the USB is correct. If i plug in an usb stick the message changes to "01 USB Mass Storage devices found and configured".
So i guess that is normal also.
Before that the Memory (2 x 1GB Kingston PC800) was initialized successfully and also the S-ATA2 Samsung HD and the DVD Rom (IDE).

I'm not sure about the other messages, but there's definately no error Message.

The CPU is an AMD X2 4400+ which is also recognized correctly.

I would reset all of your devices. memory, video card etc... then i would clear the cmos with the battery still in. also I would unhook my dvd/cd drive and try to boot with just 1 memory stick in your HD hooked up and vid card but nothing else. and if that allows you to post and boot then hook each other item in 1 by 1 till you find the problem.

If that doesn't work then you should take your MOBO out of the box. makesure there are no screws between it and the case. Make sure it's not shorting out somewhere.

Good Luck!

I can't take the mobo out of the box since it cames fixed with the barebone. Maybe it's possible to remove it, but then i will have to screw a lot. Also i'm not sure if i'll loose my warranty by doing so.

The video card is onboard and seems to work as it should. I'll try to boot without HD and CD-ROM, i've allready tried to boot with only one memory stick.

I first cleared it with the battery in. After that, like stated in the manual i took the battery out when setting the jumper.
Anyway the Reset was successfull, the asus boot screen which i turned out previously is back again.

Will now try to remove some devices.
