I just formatted an XP machine of mine and I can't do windows update.

When I try to do Windows update I get this error on the microsoft page:

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

Computer:

Win XP SP2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 2.6ghz
Core Processor 5000+
2gb RAM

parabolate: You don't mention what you reinstalled XP with. If you definitely installed with SP2 then everything should work. As you know the 64 bit version does not use SP3. If you installed from an original disc the updates won't work until you install SP1. This is an old problem. See this magazine site: Patch Plugs Win XP Hole Without SP1 | PCWorld

I installed using a SP2 disc.

The exact error number when I get the message on the microsoft page is

Error number: 0x8024400A

Do i need to downgrade it to SP1? Should I try to put SP3 on the machine? I have the SP3 .iso......

This is a 32 bit not 64 bit OS
