Cannot connect to modem or router.

1939 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  2xg
First time post so bear with me. I have a Westell 6100 modem and a DLink WBR 1310 router that I cannot access. I had a virus that was showing up as AV Security Suite. I downloaded Malwarebytes and it got rid of the virus. Ever since that day I have not been able to connect to the internet. I have tried to connect directly to the modem and router from my laptop and my desktop with no luck. I have tested both at a separate location and they work fine. I can ping both devices and get a response. Can anyone help me?!?!?!?! Here is the IPCONFIG settings for the router:

Hello and Welcome to TSF!

My wife is at home trying this while I am at work with internet searching to try and fix this mess.

Ok, everytime I have tried anything it says "THE REQUESTED OPERATION REQUIRES ELEVATION" so I took off the user account control to allow this to work. She did:
type netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log and press enter

type netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log and press enter
Restart your computer after

Reset TCP/IP
type netsh winsock reset catalog and press enter
Restart your computer after

After this it still would not connect so she did IPCONFIG/ALL again and the results sounded the same. Did I leave something out or do something wrong?

Did she do this? Re---Ok, everytime I have tried anything it says "THE REQUESTED OPERATION REQUIRES ELEVATION"
Open up a command prompt and type these commands (Click on Start=> All Programs=> Accessories then right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.
Have her try all those 3 commands again please.
I went home and did this myself. Here is the results:

C:\Users>netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
Reseting Echo Request, failed.
Access is denied.

Reseting Interface, OK!
A reboot is required to complete this action.

C:\Users>netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
Reseting Echo Request, failed.
Access is denied.

There's no user specified settings to be reset.

After I restart this is what I got:

C:\Users>ipconfig/all

I noticed as above it changed from c:\users to c:\windows\system32. After all of this I still cannot access the modem.

Uninstall/reinstall your Network Adapter from Device Manager:

Click on Start, right click My Computer => Properties => Hardware tab => Device Manager => find your Network Adapters and expand it. Right click on the Wireless Adapter and choose Uninstall. To reinstall, right click anywhere on any Device, then choose Scan for hardware changes. Normally your Windows will do a Plug N play auto install for you, but just in case you might have your CD driver ready.
My laptop now works correctly. I can access my router and my modem and I am so relieved. Now I am working on my desktop to get it to do the same. It is a little different as it has Windows 98 on it. I know I should just trash the thing but I am sentimental. Thank you for all the help 2xgrump :pray::pray:
Glad that it works. Don't forget the Winsock fix for the Win98 computer, see if it helps.

You're Welcome!
