i got only two pc hooked up with an 8-port switch. The swtich is right beside my personal pc, but the other one (Office pc) is about 500 meters away and so i got a fiber and 2 media converters to cover the distance.
Everything works fine...can share files and everything but only in the day time...? It's weired but whenever it gets dark, i get almost no response from that pc.
btw, I'm the Administrator and only I have access to both pc, and I was the one who setup the network. Maybe there's my problem...

Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

That is more than a little odd. When you say "almost no response", what are the exact symptoms? Do pings work one or both ways? Are you sure it's simply the dark?

hmm, never really tried it, but im almost sure the same thing happens...whenever i ping i recieve one or two response before it says Request Timed Out or Destination Host is unreachable

Maybe the Issue is power. Have you checked your power?

actually power couldn't be the issue, as we have power issue all day. fluctuating voltage and power failure is common through out the day...

Sorry for posting misleading statements but I'm not implying that the dark is the source of my problem. I cant recall all the time i've had this problem, but most of the time its during the night. Could it be that the moist air in the night causes this problem? As one of my media converter is out hung on a electric pole.

I'd run a packet sniffer program like wireshark so you can see what the traffic is like when it is working and when it is not.

btw, i did some searching, and it turns out that my lan is altogether very slow. The fastest transfer rate i ever got was around 10mb/s whereas 80-90 seems to be normal speeds.

That still shouldn't have any effect on the connection, unless you have a lot of traffic going across in the evening

nope no traffic what so ever. like i said only i have access to both pc.
I just tried transferring 1gig of data, and im getting a ridiculous speed of 72 KB/s.
