Is this possible?
I have been given an old Dell laptop to fix but a broken power adapter for it. I have a working AC adapter from a dead compaq as well as the piece of cord that goes from the AC box to the back of the Dell. Would it be possible to open up this adapter, solder on the new wire, and use it as a temporary fix?

I just want to know if that laptop works before I go buy another AC adapter.
The ratings for the computer are 19v 3.16A
The Adapter is 19v 4.7A

If the Compaq adapter is not the same Voltage specs as the Dell adapter I would not attempt to use it.

Sorry I should included Amperage. I would not use the adapter if it is not the same Voltage & Amperage as the Dell adapter.
