I am working on a computer that a friend had trouble with
He was trying to play music and his computer locked up. When he
tried to reboot it ask to insert a boot disk to run scan reg.
So when I tired to go into bios to change the floppy to run
first. It asked for a password and he says he never used a password before to go to bios. Is there anyway around the password. You get 3 tries and windows 98 try's to boot up. But it
want boot up.

Well my first suggestion is take the battery out and then short the jumpers I cant remember if this will erase the passwordor not but it will create a brand new defualt Bios. If not you may be able to find a Bios password cracker(I dont encourage hacking but it if it is your own system is it really hacking)

OK first unplug the computer.

Then take the cover or side off.

Look for a jumper called CLRCMOS or something of that nature near the battery.

If it is there then move the jumper over one pin so that it is on the middle pin and the other one for a minute then put it back.

Or you can remove the battery and you will probably need to leave it out for a few hours.

After this you can replace the battery and you will need to set all of the bios settings over again.

And passwords don't just appear from nowhere.....
