Can not Access any AV or Microsoft sites

1014 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  sUBs
I've been strugling with a virus IRC/Backdoor.SDbot.HLV (AVG Free calls it this) for sometime now and a friend suggest I ask people here for help. The infected file is C:\winnt\system32\.exe. The problems are that a while after booting up I pretty much can no longer use the net but prior to that I can only go to non Antio-Virus software sites or Microsoft sites.

Id like to prethank anyone for trying to help and wading through the mess of lines that follows. So, thanks.

Oh yeah... I completely forgot... after I can no longer use the net I get a running process called mousebm.exe. I have to delete that file and its reg keys to be able to use the net for the few minuts i get. Did you want a log after that file appears?
Hello and Welcome to TSF!

Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of fixes as soon as they are posted.

You appear to have two anti-virus/firewall programs on your machine. That's not a good idea!! :4-thatsba
Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & may produce undesirable results. Please uninstall one of them.

While TeaTimer & Adwatch are excellent tools for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable them for now until you are clean. They can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.

Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose [Yes] at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the [Tools] menu.
  • Click [Resident].
  • Uncheck the Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active. box.
  • In the File menu click [Exit] to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Open AdAware SE.
  • Go to AdWatch User Interface.
  • Go to Tools and Preferences.
  • At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
  • Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
  • Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
  • Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.
  • Unless they are turned off they could interfere with the fix by HijackThis.

Please download these additional files/programs. Do not run them until instructed to do so.
Unless otherwise stated, they should be stored in same directory as the HiJackThis program.

CleanUp.exe - Install.

KillBox v2.0.0.175.exe (it's important that you get version v2.0.0.175)

'UNPLUG'/DISCONNECT YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE INTERNET WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED DOWNLOADING

This webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. Please save the following instructions in Notepad. I have customed my instructions on the assumption that you are using Notepad. It may lead to some confusion should you choose to do otherwise.

If there's anything that you don't understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding with the fixes. There should not be any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T MISS A STEP & PERFORM EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER.

Download Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).
  • Double-click the tmas-web-scan.exe icon
  • It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
  • Click "Start Scan"
After it's done scanning, click "Scan Results"
  • Make sure all items found have a check next to them, then click "Clean Threats Now".
  • Click Exit.
Reboot your computer. I then need you to repeat the same procedure above again... using the TrendMicro tool. I need the log from the second scan/clean...NOT the first...as this will contain what’s left in the system.

In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called "Antispyware.log", please double-click that log and copy the entire contents and paste them here.
