hi,

i have a compaq presario with motherboard ABAE-LE. this is the manual here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00496280&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

i am using an ide hard drive which, of course, plugs into an ide port. there are also two sata ports on the motherboard that are not being used. can i plug a dvd burner into one of these sata ports and make it work properly without also having to use a sata hard drive? the dvd burner is plextor px-880sa.
thanks.

Yes you can use an SATA optical drive.
If you haven't already purchased the Plextor I would advise buying a LG or Lite-On.
Plextor used to be the best but they quit making their own drives some time back and they are not good performers and are quite unreliable.

hi Tyree,

i was unaware that there were issues with plextor. i own another plextor and use it in a different compaq presario. my luck so far with that unit has been favorable, but that can change at any time, and it is a very new and unused unit. every time i buy one of these i get the extended warranty. i feel pretty good about paying for that now.
next time i buy a dvd burner i will try to get lite-on or LG.
thanks for the reply.
