Hi all,

In the past I've connected to the net with an ethernet cable but I'm currently connected by USB for convenience. I've now bought a wireless router so I need to connect through the ethernet cable, however, when I plug the ethernet cable into my cable modem my PC doesn't recognise the connection and tells me that a network cable is unplugged even though it's not. Why? If I connect the cable modem to the router and the router to my PC, it recognises the connection but my cable modem then doesn't connect to the net! What is going on?!?

I'm using XP motorola SB5101E cable modem and a Belkin wireless G router.

Check device manager for your NIC card.

A modem needs a powercycle (unplug power cable for one minute)whenever you change the device that is connected to it
