Hello, I just bought a router (Gigabyte GN-BR01) and followed the guide how to install it. But I have some problem with the router, I can connect with my laptop (Asus EEE 901) but when I trying to connect with my PC it doesn´t connect. My wireless adapter (Netgear WPN311) finds the network but it doesn´t connect.

The funny thing is that when I´m deleting the passphrase to the router, then I can connect with the PC.

What could the problem be, and how do I solve it?? :normal:

You are turning of your wireless encryption thats the reason why your desktop is connecting.

1. Make sure WEP key is matching up and you have channels identical on router and client.
2. If you are using WPA, switch to WEP as it needs configurations on the client host. YES WEP is not the best, but its better than nothing. Use your phone number for the WEP key, including area code (9 digits).

Post a screenshot of your wireless security settings.

Do NOT heed the advice to change from WPA to WEP, there is no reason to do that! Also, using a known number for any encryption key is a bad idea!.

WPA is far superior and that wireless adapter supports WPA, so my advice is to use it. Use a long random key of numbers and letters for the key, I suggest 20 characters. Here's a decent WPA Key Generator that will generate a truly random key.

With encryption and MAC filtering disabled on the machine, please do this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Well I tried WEP security, and now the Internet works. I have no idea why WAP security didn´t work.

But I have a new problem now, when i´m trying to connect to a Website it doesn´t show up. Failed to connect.

How do I solve this?

Some of the text is in Swedish (sorry)

Well, that IPCONFIG shows no active connections, so you aren't connected at the time you took that.

What are the EXACT symptoms when you try to connect?

Well, when I connect to the router with the PC it does work for a while, then after 20 minutes it just unconnects then I have to restart the routher then it works again in 20 minutes and so on.

When it unconnects, I opened the Netgear network window, and when i´m looking at the channels it just jumping around the channels, and then the IP disappears.

First off, don't use the auto setting for channel selection on the router, that's frequently problematic.

Some things you can try here.

  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

I tried to move router and now I get better connection.

I still have the problem when it´s jumping around the channels, but the connection do come back after a few seconds. Can I get better connection somehow? Buy a antenna or something? Becouse now the router is 50 meters away from my computer, the connection is "medium".
