Can´t connect to the Internet

Hi,

HELP!

I´ve been having a strange problem I cannot seem to solve.

My computer all of a sudden last week stopped displaying any webpages/connecting to the internet. It says it is connected (signal strenght/connection= excellent) but it won´t actually connect. Not to IE (7), but not to anything else either. The problem is both for the wireless as well as through the cabel connection.

I´m sure the problem must be the computer and not the internet though, because on my friend´s computer it works fine. I have tried to put all the settings the same as on his (gateway, dns, network mask).

I have already tried to reboot the computer.

I have tried to renew/reset the IP-address numerous times, but am not sure this is working right. I have manually tried to set it (same as the computer that does connect, except for the last two digits).
But when I do it through Run it will let me release the IP-address, however when i try to renew it tells me

¨An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.¨

I have also tried to reset WinSock.

It will not ping either, I tried yahoo.com and 66.218.71.198 - it tells me Destination host is unreachable.

The last windows diagnostics I have are as followed;

Re: Can´t connect to the Internet

Your having issue with LSP possibly

If you have XP-SP3 or Vista, you should use the built-in repair for the WINSOCK and TCP/IP stack. If you have XP-SP1 or earlier (and any previous version of Windows), you should use the Automated WINSOCK Fix all Windows Versions. I've included all the resets here.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

If the system is infected there is a very good chance the infection is causing this issue.
