Buying external HD, Need software?

696 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  flmcse
Instead of coming to this forum for help later. I would like some advice on a external HD (brand) that's stable, and dependable.

So I want to buy a EX HDD, and can I remove a user from my daughters laptop, and put the data on the EX HDD. Is there software, thats very good at this?

Also I'd like to backup, my daughters, data (entire User data).

Your thoughts?

Thanks

Hi SndyRds,

I've had good luck with Western Digital and Iomega external hard-drives. No company is perfect though, each of them have their faulty devices....it happens. Yes, you can definitely remove a user from your daughter's laptop as long as the account you are on has "Administrator" rights. As far as transferring the data over to the external HD, you can actually just save $$$$ and do this yourself. You can drag-and-drop folders onto the external HD. Good luck and hopefully everything works out for you.
The folder you will want to backup is C:\Documents and Settings\Username in Windows XP and C:\Users\Username in Windows 7

That should get most, if not all of your user's data. Some programs may keep data elsewhere, but usually it is in the those directories
