My computer kept randomly turning itself off and inside the fan was a lot of dust. I removed the fan and cleaned out the dust. Applied new thermal paste and put it back toghter. Now nothing turned on. ive tried resetting cmos both ways. The fan spins but thats about it. Nothing is outputted on screen.

Ive got a new core 2 duo mobo and cpu but the fan doesnt even touch the cpu. So i havnt tried this

is my old mobo dead?

And is there a reason why the fan doesnt fit?

how much thermal paste did you put on it sould be no more then a thin dull pencil mark

what happens when its too thick?


i got my fan on today on my core2uo box but nothing happens. THe fan spins nothing is on screen and nothing beeps any help?

Too thick and it starts to act as an insulator and not a thermal conductor, look at the link below on thermal paste

Ive tried with artic silver 5 and it still doesnt boot

really thin layer
any ideas?

check you have not dislodged something
reseat the ram
check the cpu heatsink is seated ok
