Hello all,

Recently my old box had an exciting event! My PSU decided to go and took the hard drive out. So I have decided to investigate building a new box for around $1000ish.

Here is my first draft at a new build I'm looking at:

I would switch out the case and get a DDR3 MOBO and RAM. DDR2 costs almost as much as 3 now and obviously, DDR3 RAM is better.
Not necessarily. And the LGA775 DDR3 boards can be quite buggy, and often can't use the low-voltage DDR3 RAM that's selling so cheaply nowadays. Sometimes it works, sometimes you fry the RAM. We only recommend DDR3 on platforms that support it natively, ie. AM3, P55, X58.

The build looks good but I would advise the same as jobob1 on the Mobo and the one he linked to would be a good choice. Intel CPU's prefer Intel chipsets.

Edit: Actually, I am going to try to find time this week to reevaluate the build as other people on the thread give different types of inputs.
