I hope someone can help!!!

This has been an ongoing problem. I cannot fix it. I have followed this thread-http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f299/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-7-and-vista-452654.html

and lead me to this thread

http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...-windows-7-and-vista-bsod-related-473665.html

I made it this point on thread 2. Now, I am lost.-

For Driver Verifier status
--- select last option, 1st screen -or-
--- type verifier /query (in a cmd/DOS screen)
- To turn Driver Verifier off - verifier /reset then re-boot

I checked the mini dump and it didn't have any new file. It crashed though. I could only get error on BSOD - xf6 & D8 & B55EF0030. I have restored from the restore point.

Please see the attached. I appreciate your help, as I have had several techs tell me it's fixed...it's not:(

· OS - Vista/ Windows 7 ? Windows 7. · x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 32
· What was original installed OS on system? Vista
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? It was Vista-used Toshiba Upgrade Assistant when it launched.

· System Manufacturer Toshiba
· Exact model number L505-S6946

· Age of system (hardware) 2 years
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? newly installed AGAIN

For the Verifier stuff:
If you want to see what it's settings are:
For Driver Verifier status
--- select last option, 1st screen -or-
--- type verifier /query (in a cmd/DOS screen)
If you want to turn it off:
- To turn Driver Verifier off - verifier /reset then re-boot
Also done from a cmd/DOS screen.
Missing Toshiba Firmware Linkage driver (associated with a password utility) Also may be in the Toshiba Value Added package. Please download and install this program(s).

Memory dumps are split evenly (roughly) between AVG problems and disk hardware problems.

- download a fresh copy of AVG
- uninstall the current copy of AVG from your system
- install the freshly downloaded copy of AVG
- IMMEDIATELY update it and scan your system.

Please run this free hard drive diagnostic: HD Diagnostic

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs:
3RD PARTY DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
- Create a System Restore Point prior to doing any of this. DO NOT mess with the drivers themselves - leave the Windows\System32\drivers directory alone unless we specifically direct you to it!
- Please either update the older drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers.

Thanks for getting back with me. It took me a long time to find updated drivers. From the device manager, they all were "updated". I hope it works. It is sparatic. However, I will know for sure within a week and will update you!
Wish me luck. Thanks for sharing!

Have you uninstalled/reinstalled AVG?
Did you scan your system afterward? If so, what was the result?

Have you run the Hard Drive diagnostic utility as I suggested?
If so, what was the result?

Did you update the drivers as I requested? DO NOT update them from Device Manager - it's unreliable and it doesn't give you the latest versions.
They don't show as updated in the memory dumps.
In particular, the TouchPad drivers must be updated from the Synaptics website - NOT from the Toshiba website. Use the links for them:
Toshiba: Toshiba Support - Homepage
Synaptics: Drivers | Synaptics

Sorry. I must have thought you had a crytal ball-haha!

Have you uninstalled/reinstalled AVG? Yes
Did you scan your system afterward? Yes If so, what was the result? No Threats Found

Have you run the Hard Drive diagnostic utility as I suggested? Yes
If so, what was the result? No problems found.

Did you update the drivers as I requested? Yes. From the sites.
Device Manager found no updates; therefore, I searched on the Toshiba and Synaptics sites.
Unistalled AVG.
I ran Toshiba upgrade advisor too. The only error was Device Not Found ACPT\TOS1901.
After I installed new updates, I ran Toshiba upgrade advisor again. There were no errors.
  1. TVAP installed 11.2.23 util_tvap_TC00214700M.exe RESTART
  2. Then I found TVAP 1.2.28 and installed it util_tvap_TC00214700H.exe which should have updated ACPI and TVAP.
  3. Synaptics I had 11.24.0 I updated driver with v15.2.20
  4. Software Modem installed 2.2.97 driver_modem_toshiba_TC00221400(d?-handwriting).exe
They don't show as updated in the memory dumps. How? Why?
Should I update BIOS?

Ahhh Crud!!! I am a dumb***!
I didn't look at the driver list I posted.

Please note that there's 2 SynTP.sys, 2 AGRSM.sys, and 2 TVALZ_O.SYS drivers listed. There's the older one in RED and the newer one in BLACK

I'm still unsure about the FwLnk.sys driver, but will be researching that as soon as I post this. Please provide a link to the download for the TVAP package that you used.

FYI - This happens when you update the drivers between the BSOD's. The older one's are from the first BSOD, and the newer one's are the updated one's that were in place for the second BSOD. It's not a problem, I just forgot to check to see if there were other entries in the list :banghead:

1 - create a System Restore point
2 - create a System Repair Disc (Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc)
3 - make sure that you can boot the System Restore Disc and can access System Restore

4 - Use Autoruns (should already be on your system from the BSOD collection app, but if not, it's free from here: Autoruns for Windows ) Search out any instances of FwLnk.sys and disable them by removing the checkmark in the far left column

5 - Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename FwLnk.sys to FwLnk.BAD

6 - Reboot

If the system doesn't reboot into Windows, use the System Repair Disc to enter System Restore and use the system restore point that you set in Step 1.
