BSOD of an Asus F5 laptop

2759 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  mgorman87
Dear BSOD analysts,

Could one of you please help me in finding a solution for a divide by zero bsod that exists for more than a year and survived 2 OSs (Vista and Windows 7)?

I followed the roadmap of jcgriff2. The results should be in the Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2.zip

Thanks in advance! Gerrit.

Further information from a minidump

According to the website's advice, I executed the Driver Verifier. This resulted in a bsod during startup (new behaviour). A problem appears to be present in synTP.sys .

The minidump.zip is attached.

HTH, Gerrit.

Your driver verified dump puts to Kaspersky and your Synaptic Touch Pad driver.

I don't want to have you uninstall Kaspersky just yet.

Thanks so much for helping me! I'm now collecting all updates and will try to implement them this weekend.

The following driver couldn't be found on the Asus-site:
ATKACPI.sys ATK Hotkey ATK0101 ACPI Utility Driver ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download

My exact model Asus laptop is X50VL. When I do a support-check for this laptop, I have to select the OS. The current OS is Windows 7, this is not supported by ASUS for this laptop. Therefore I must select 'Others'. Then there's only a BIOS-update available.

Is it okay to select Vista instead?

Thx, Gerrit.
When selecting VISTA, Asus offers to me:

Description ATK_Hotkey UTILITY
ATK_Hotkey UTILITY for Vista
File Size 4,73 (MBytes) 2007.05.14 update

Version V1043.2.31.100 Copy Link
Description ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY
ASUS ATK0100 UTILITY driver for Vista 32bit
File Size 63,17 (KBytes) 2007.01.26 update

Version V6.64.1.4 Copy Link
Description ASUS ATKOSD2 UTILITY
ASUS ATKOSD2 UTILITY for Vista 32bit
File Size 8,45 (MBytes) 2007.01.25 update

They're all 3 pretty outdated, aren't they?

I'm not sure about the latest release of the ATK0100 utility, but this one is much more recent: Asus N20 Notebook ATK0100 Utility V1043.2.31.100 for Vista - AsusDriver.net

After installing it, run Windows Update to see if it finds a newer one.
Unfortunately, this version results in a ATKacpi.sys with exactly the same date, 14-12-2006. And everytime I try to install it, the laptop results in a blue screen, leaving no other option than to do a full recovery.

This recovery brings the system back to the old situation with all obsolete files!

I wish I could make a clean install from a system image. But Asus does not provide anything I believe. Also, they do not provide drivers for this system when using windows 7.

So, I'm in a deadloc I think....:4-dontkno

If you have driver verifier enabled, disable it before updating the driver.

EDIT: Here is a 2009 dated version of the driver
