BSOD nightmare help me!!

As a computer simpleton I tried to network my computer to another that had cable internet action. I'm running win2k pro w/SP3 on a sony vaio pcg-r505tlk phoenix bios 4.0. While trying to make a connection I realized I was wy over my head, but the damadge was done. Every time i tried to boot I get a Stop KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED followed by parameters that after extensive research have yeilded no help (if anyone thinks they will I will post them). I can boot to safe mode, and the event log lists problems with RAS and Telephony service not started since last boot. The BSOD suggested i disable BIOS caching and shadowing which to date I have been unable to figure out how. I have tried to run chkdsk, but my system says that it cannot gain exclusive access to C: drive. I purchased fix-it utilities only to find that I cannot install programs in safe mode. Fix it is on a bootable disk which has a few recovery tools, one similar to chkdsk, whick gave me the same problem (exclusive access). Considering that I no longer have my windows CD-ROM, I'm really between a rock and a hard place. Any suggestions available to this minimal data would be greately appreciated.

Thanks,
Lhollister

Have you tried going in through safe mode and removing the video driver? I've seen similar error message due to video driver problems.
