Hello everyone,

I am turning to you with request for help on the following issue. I have received a BSOD several times on my brand new Acer Aspire 7738G, operating with Windows 7 Ultimate in 64bit mode. The BSOD does not state the driver that is to blame, but I ran a program called bluescreenview and it turns out each time the nwifi.sys was listed at fault.

I am attaching perfmon.zip and tsf_vista_support.zip to ease those of you, who would be so kind to help.

If I may share some personal observations about my issue with you, I could say that I am almost 100% sure that it only occurs when uTorrent is working. After I noticed that, I ran uTorrent alone and left it to work for an hour or two, but it did not crash. However, after I plugged the charger in, while the uTorrent still running, and started browsing the Net with Firefox, the laptop crashed in less than 10 minutes. I don't know if that last "clue" has anything to do with BSOD at all, but I am just sharing anything that might help you investigate the issue. Also, I bumped on other complaints about uTorrent returning a IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL BSOD, but nowhere did anyone post a working solution to that.

That is why you guys here may be the lenders of my last resort in my fight against BSOD :)

Greetings to you all,

Seeyan

We do not provide assistance with torrent programs - it's against the rules.
If you're still interested in our assistance, please remove the torrent program(s) until we're finished troubleshooting your issues.

Since the BlueScreenView stated nwifi.sys, I'd first suggest updating your wireless networking drivers from the manufacturer of the WiFi card's website.

There's a inoperative component on the system ( ROOT\LEGACY_INT15\0000 ). Please check in your Device Manager and see. I suspect that it's a part of your Acer Empowering Technology.

Are you using Driver Verifier? If so, please turn it off while we're testing.
It points at DB3G.sys (Diamondback USB Optical Mouse Driver) as the issue. The driver is dated from 2005 - so I'd suggest updating it to the latest Windows 7 driver available.

Running the 4 dump files now, will be right back....

The debugger can't find the proper symbols for your memory dump files. I've got to ask, at this point, is this a legitimate copy of Windows? The build information is different from the builds that I'm used to ( 7600.20555.amd64fre.win7_ldr.091021-1509 )

Older drivers on the system that should be updated:
Code:
netw5v64.sys Thu Sep 25 10:49:17 2008
SynTP.sys Fri Dec 05 01:15:44 2008
nuvotonhidgeneric.sys Wed Oct 08 05:35:08 2008
hidshim.sys Wed Oct 08 05:35:11 2008
DB3G.sys Mon Nov 07 01:33:11 2005
agrsm64.sys Fri Feb 29 14:59:30 2008
k57nd60a.sys Wed Sep 03 23:12:42 2008
The Diamondback Mouse drivers are the most likely to be the issue at this point. Please update them and see if that stops the BSOD's

Hello,

First of all, thank you for your assistance.

I believe do not have drivers for my wireless networking device. The only drivers that refer to my laptop model and operation system and are located on Acer's webpage are from Atheros.

When I try to install them, the installer tells me it cannot detect that a supported device is present. That is why I believe my wireless adapter is from another manufacturer. I must say that choosing a different operation system from the drop-down menu, for example Vista Ultimate x64, returns one more option for wireless LAN drivers to be downloaded - those from Intel. Is it possible that my WiFi adapter is manufactured by Intel? How can I check? And if so, will it be viable solution to download the drivers for Vista Ultimate x64 and install them on Windows 7 Ultimate x64?

As for the mouse, I know about the problem. After I ran verfier.exe (only once, I am not currently running it, afaik), it messed up my Razer driver and after the next boot the system failed, returning the BSOD. Then I used system restore and went to Razer's webpage. There I found a newer version and updated to it. But the BSODs caused by nwifi.sys continued. So I'm guessing it is not caused by the mouse driver.

About my copy of Windows - it must be legitimate. It came with my notebook. The supplier said it is the newest release of Windows 7 (from December). Is it possible that my copy of Windows is messed up?

About the list of drivers that you say need be updated - how do I update them?

Thank you very much for your assistance. I am looking forward to reading from you soon :)

Alright,

I searched for issues with netw5v64.sys over the net, and it turns out there are other complaints about Intel's (yes, my WiFi Adapter is from Intel) drivers. It seems it malfunctions with x64 OS and Torrent managers. Users over the Net report that the newest version of the driver (v13) still returns BSODs. I guess my only option is to return to a previous version (v11), which was reported to be stable by some users.

Do you have an idea how could I return to a previous version of the driver? Rolling-back did not help - it only rolls-back to v12.

And about the other drivers that you listed as outdated - I believe you have referred to my oldest mini-dump. If you would check the latest, most of the drivers are updated already. The one I could not update is k57nd60a.sys, but I guess there might not be a newer version of it (or I am not looking at the right place ;)).

Looking forward to your reply.

With regards,

Seeyan

Hello again, usasma,

I updated my netw564.sys to the latest version. I still got the BSODs. I am attaching my most recent two dump files.

This time the nwifi.sys is not pointed at fault, only hal.dll (at least according to bluescreenview, the software I use to read the dump files). Could you give me a clue as to what could be the reason for the hal.dll problem? Also, if you would read my newest dump files, is there another driver at fault the you believe could be the cause?

Do you think that the fact I have not installed my inoperative component on the system ( ROOT\LEGACY_INT15\0000 )" (which I am most suspicious to be my TV Tuner) might have something to do and should I try to install a driver for it? Btw, my device manager does not show anything about inoperative device, so I cannot be absolutely sure that it is the TV Tuner.

Thank you for your time! :)

BlueScreenView doesn't always cite the same causes as the Windows Debugging Tools.
HAL.DLL is the Hardware Abstraction Layer - it's the thing that allows the hardware to talk to Windows.

Most commonly, HAL.DLL errors point to an incompatibility - either due to a driver or a piece of hardware being incompatible with Windows.

I really can't get much info from the memory dumps because of the symbol errors. Maybe you could follow the directions in the following link in order to try the symbols on your own: http://www.carrona.org/dbgrpt.html

Who supplied your copy of Windows? Do you have a disk with a Microsoft hologram on it - or an OEM disk made by the computer manufacturer? What is the make and model of your computer? Is it a copy that's not sold in the US?

We're still getting the "incorrect symbols" message when running the dump files.
The dump files point to NTOSKRNL.EXE as the issue, not HAL.DLL

The Diamondback driver is still outdated, please either update it or stop using it (and uninstall the driver) until we're finished troubleshooting: DB3G.sys Mon Nov 07 01:33:11 2005

Uninstall the TV Tuner software - if that's the int15.sys driver, that'll remove it. If not, then it's most likely a part of the Acer Empowering Technology stuff.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000000, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000000, bitfield :
	bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: fffff800035ea477, address which referenced memory

Hello, usasma,

Thank you for your time and efforts.

My db3g.sys file is old, but is the newest there is. I am absolutely sure of that as I personally checked the content of the latest driver package for download from Razer's website.

However, as I already mentioned earlier, I found other users with the same wifi adapter (Intel's WiFi Link 5100 AGN) and a 64bit OS have the same problem of BSODs pointing to NETwv4v64.sys, Intel's wifi driver. As with my case, the blue screens only occur when the wireless connection is stressed (I am bolding the previous items so that users with similar problems skimming through this topic can find the most important information easily). The HW configurations of the users reporting this problem range from similar to mine to completely different. That is why I am guessing the problem in my case is most probably not a conflict between drivers or hardware, but simply a malfunctioning driver + hardware under my current OS. Thus I guess I should live with that.

So I suggest we leave the case as it is for now. Maybe Intel will come up with better drivers in the coming months, at least I hope so. If I get some development on the case, I will write here in this topic to inform you. There may be other users in this forum that have similar problems, so I hope I have given you an extra angle to approach the situations ;).

Thank you for your help and most honorable will to assist me. I really appreciate your efforts. In fact, if it was not for you telling me about the netv5v64.sys driver at fault, I might never have found the answer to the problem (although not a solution ;)).

Take care.

Hello,
I have the same laptop Acer 7738G with Intel 5100 WiFi adapter and Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM. I'm getting the same BSOD every time I put my network on heavy load(downloading something big with high speed - 4-5mb/s). I have updated with the latest drivers from Intel (13.0.0.107) but the problem is hire again. It is getting very annoying!

If someone has found solution, please share!

Hey,

I guess you experience your issues when you download torrents, right? I haven't found a complete cure for the problem, I am guessing Intel are in no hurry to fix their ****ty drivers. I did, however, find a way to soothe the problem - I just limit my DL/UL speed on torrent clients (yes, yes, I know torrent clients are not supposed to be discussed here, sorry) and since I took that measure my system has been as stable as rock.

I have loaded my Wi-Fi bandwidth to the max (by copying large files from my Desktop PC via the wireless connection - reached 13 MB/s ;)) and had no problems, so I am guessing the large number of connections (that accompany a full-throttle torrent client usage) is the problem. Remedy - decrease the number of connections/limit speed. Or just download one torrent at a time ;)).

Good luck!
