browser control

I got a browser control problem. Netscape is coverting my jpegs,gifs, aand docs. to html (or whatever it uses) format and won't allow me to view & modify it under I.E offline(as I do much editing offline). . How do I get out from under Netscapes control? It is Net. 6.2 I have I.E.6 browser

Also in the same vein, I want to go back to earlier version of Netscape(4.08 or4.74) but when I uninstall the higher version and try to reload the lower one. . .whenI try to use it, it does not connect to the web from the desktop and it will not activate even if I am on the web via I.E.! Something is amiss and I not not where to turn.
