Hi Folks,

I have my brothers Sony Vaio laptop which he stood on and smashed the screen.

I have this now as my main computer running via an external monitor. The problem is that he ran this for months with no AV or firewall and it is loaded with nonsense and files that I want to remove.

I wan to start the machine again, but it defaults to the screen, and not the external monitor. I don't want to buy a new screet at the moment as these are £400.

In theory is it possible to tell the laptop somewhere to perminantly use the external monitor so that I can complete the reboot, as it really needs doing.

I'll get the details of the laptopo when I am home.

Thanks,

press the Fn and F7 keys to cycle thru lcd only, external only, both.

note: Vaio models vary in the use of different keys, it's always the Fn key and the other key will have a monitor symbol on it (may be the F7, F4, F6, etc...)

Thanks Stu, but the problem is when trying to use the Sony restore disks to compleatly restart the laptop. It will only allow for the laptops screen to be used.
Thanks

did you also consider the used parts market as a possible source?

try googling the vaio model with 'used parts uk' to see what is available.

you may find a complete laptop that is not working but can be harvested for parts...here's an example
