Hello , Happy cristmus&new year wishes in advance. My problem regards to my brand new wd hd creating noise on frist boot since I had loaded OS(xp) . Whenever I pointed mouse/cick an application/open aprogram it creates grinding metallic sound. One of the two LEDs(not the power indicator, the other) blinks in syncronisation with grinding sound. The sound stops on loading the program on the moniter(I think data arrival on RAM). some clicking sounds comes even when the system in idle. Is the HD comes damaged?. Should I replace HD?.Of couese the retailor assured me to replace if damaged. Model of HD-WDcavior blue 3200AAJS 00L7A0. OS-XP pro sp3. computer make- lenovo desktop 9215 12Q. Thanks Mr raptor pa for your previous answers.I oppolozise for not responding your previous answers since my system's old HD was dead. Thanks again.

A new Hdd should not be noisy. Return it to the retailer.

hello, if a new hard drive is making noise TAKE IT BACK, there is no reason for brand new hard drive to be grinding and/or clicking. The light you are talking about is it amber in color and beating in heartbeat fashion is probably also telling you same thing that the drive is not well.
Return it for an exchange.

Hello, thanks for answer. But the color of LED does not changes to amber. It's green and blinks whenever and so long as hd creates noise. It blinks in heart beat fashion in tandem with hd noise when hd is idle. There was same symptom with my old hd and I replaced that hd with this new one.I suspect if there is any problem with other hardware inside?. Thanks.
