My brother got a brand new computer a Gateway509GE its a great computer, it came with a double layer 16x multi-format DVD -/+RW and it also a x16 dvd drive.
It burned the first time I used it and up till a few days ago worked fine but after that I tryed to burn a DVD useing Nero and it said it burned fine but the cds are still blank no erorr messages what so ever I even tryed easy-cd to make sure it was not nero.
Its only DvDs that will not write regular, 700MB burn with the drang and drop option. I put in a blank DVD and the computer says it has 0kb out of 0kb
I dont have any funky programs runing i use Ad-ware SE for spyware Norten 2005 for viruses the only pro gram that could have somthing to do with it is deamon tool (emulated drives) but this was not a problem before.
This is his computer running XP

I have Philips dvd re-writer which has worked fine until recently. When you place a dvdr in the drive and try to write a file to it an error window opens which says "windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file". If a CDR is used it will write the file no problem. I have used various different discs and have updated the firmware. When I updated the firmware it did work for a short time but now it has stopped working again. I am using windows xp professional. Any help would be much appreciated.

I found this on another site and no responded there either
to start with, i would uninstall nero then reinstall it.
