Bootup Problems After Harddrive Upgrade

864 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  petercj
I recently upgraded my laptop with winxp pro from a 30GB (drive C)hard drive to a 100 GB hard drive (drive E). I used power quest drive image to copy the current harddrive to the new harddrive plugged in USB through an external enclosure. I then put the newly imaged hard drive into the laptop and it boots up past the windows xp screen with the scrolling bars. It then freezes at the winxp blue screen where you would usually pick the user name that you wish to log onto the computer with. There are no user's to choose from and the computer constantly stops at this point.

Hi - welcome to TSF

I think you would be better using the drive manufacturer's utility software (download from their website e.g. for a WD drive it's Lifeguard) put one drive as slave having set the jumpers and follow the instructions for transferring the o/s.
