I built a computer with a Gigabyte 7ZXE motherboard. It's been working fine for ages but suddenly cannot boot from anything.

The system detects the HDD fine, but when it comes to booing off a device, it fails on HDD, FDD and CD. It usually sends you to a blank screen until a restart.

Could it be a fault with the motherboard?

System info:

Mobo: Gigabyte 7ZXE
RAM: 512mb DDR PC2100
Video: nVidia GeForce 2 MX 440 64mb
Processor: AMD Athlon 1000MHz
OS: WinXP Pro

If you need any more info i can post it.

Nope, i set the BIOS to Fail safe defaults and thats about it.

I dont want to do too much as it may void the warranty. I sent the company i bought it off an email and am waiting a response. Any ideas on why it is happening tho?

Does the bios retain it's settings if you unplug the machine for a couple of hours?

The battery may be on it's way out..................:D
