I have a Dell Latitude D800 with Windows xp
When I turn on, the screen appears as a lifting fog to a bright uniform bright white screen as the start up music chimes then begins to fill in as a dark blotchey fog to a uniform dark grey then lightens. Attempting the key board I get nothing other than an occasional err prompt. I know not any fandango combination of keys to push or if this would help. This happened from out of the blue this morning when I turned on I've tried disconnecting the battery holding down power and then attempting to reboot. Thank you for any info/help cheers.

Seems like you have a dodgy screen. It may either be that you have a loose connection or you have a broken screen. Check the connections under the case (if you know how!).

Sounds like you have a failing LVDS cable or a bad connection. In rare cases this can be caused by the LCD panel itself.

Open the laptop lid to it's fullest open position and move it. Watch for differences in the screen. Also, tap on the back of the lid and twist the lid gently. Generally, a bad connection or failing cable will cause the screen to change with movement.
