boot issues

I have just finished building a new computer (with a few older parts)
- Gigabyte ga-7vrxp, athlon 2100+ w/ thermltake volcano 9, 256mb 2700 corsair ddr w/ platinum heatsink, geforce 3 etc....

It worked perfectly until i messed up. My finger scraped by the fan while it was booting up and broke the actually fan. I immediatly turned the computer off. NO pieces hit anything on the computer so i replaced the fan with the one supplied with the chip. When i turned the computer on, the speaker seems to suddely pop twice, the fans spin, but no video and no boot. Then after about five second the entire system shuts down. i am fairly versed in computers and have tried nearly everything (cmos, barebone check) I can't imagine the cpu was damaged but when i run the system w/o it, the power stays on. What is going on?

Welcome to the board,

Iv got to ask though ... what were you doing with your fingers in the computer while it was on??

Take the CPU out and try reseating it.
