Just built a new PC :-

AMD XP1900
Maxtor 30GB 7200rpm
MSI KT4 ultra
256MB DDR
Inno GF4 Ti4200
Aopen CDRW

Hard drive - Primary Master
CDRW - Secondary Master

When I try to use a 2000 pro boot disk or XP boot disk I get the message:-

BOOT I/O error reading disk.

Now I know the floppy drive works and the disks are fresh. What does this mean and how can I rectify it

BTW, hello all, first post!

Welcome to the forums lord :) Sounds like the floppy is bad, if you have a known good working floppy drive.. I'd try another disk if available or if there's no OS ect ect.. you can always just boot off any OS CD from 98 on up and just install that way :) Good luck

Welcome to TSF lord..............This should be danraks line..........LOL

This being a new build and all there are a few things that need to be checked first.

1. Are you using the 80 wire IDE cable, And is the blue or off colored end connected to the motherboard and the black end connected to the drive? Double check all of these connections.

2. Is your bios set to boot from CD-Rom first.

3. Do you have the jumper on the hard drive in the proper position.

4. Is the bios set to auto detect the drives.
