Windows XP sp2

problem is:

about a week ago my computer failed to load up, instead it came up with something along the lines of "boot failure please insert boot disc"

now ive been entering my windows disc and just gone to setup and then chose exit setup and it seems to do the trick, however obviously i want to avoid having to do this every time i load my computer

ive also googled the problem, and tried changing the boot priority list so that my hard drive is first, well i chose "1st: [hard drive]" im not sure if its supposed to say HD details but it just has [hard drive]..

any ideas? thanks

go into the recovery console and run
fixboot

boot from the xp cd and choose install
press R when it comes up and you will be in the recovery console
