Getting the BSOD :
Stop c0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll.
Ntbtlog.txt shows that unsuccessful boots have this line:
Service Pack 3 6 10 2008 05:10:07.375
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Good boots have this:
Service Pack 3 6 10 2008 05:56:20.375
Loaded driver \WINDOWS\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe
It seems that ntoskrnl.exe replaces ntkrnlpa.exe without any input from me.
Tried Glary RegRepair but it didn't help.
Device Manager shows both ntoskrnl and ntkrnlpa , as well as Hal.dll,
as drivers for ACPI Multiprocessor.
Restore to a good point doesn't seem to stick. After a few starts the BSOD returns with the same message.
The processor is Pentium Dual Core E2180
