My computer keeps crashing everytime I turn on my external dvd burner and a "blue" screen pops up with a STOP code 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x806e494f, 0xba507694, 0x00000000)

Could my external dvd burner be the problem? It crashes almost everytime the burner is turned on. Should I try buying a new one to see if it works? I have had this burner ever for about 2-3 years. It has worked just fine the entire time until a few days ago. Sometimes I can turn it on and the computer will let me burn a dvd but thats very rare. Thanks for any help.

Im not sure. It didnt when I had it on my old computer.
I ran a crash analysis and it showed that my recently installed 2008 Norton Antivirus needed updated or require a driver. I un-installed then re-installed Norton and the same thing came up when I ran the crash analysis. Also, the bsod came up when the dvd burner was turned on. I un-installed Norton again, ran the analysis and nothing came up. I turned the dvd burner on and off twice and up to now, no blue screen. Could the Norton Antivirus be the problem? Im crossing my fingers that it is since I havent seen the blue screen since.
