I have an Acer Aspire 8920, two weeks old and seemingly, working ok. It will play the demo bluray disk ok but not recently purchased ones.
Win Vista Home Premium Edition. Your help would be appreciated. On the disks that I bought, there is a warning that older Bluray drivers should be updated. Would this be best done from the Acer site?

You are suffering from a driver problem. Despite Bluray being on the market for some years, Acer has not done the basics properly. They have bought BluRay functions from CyberLink who wants to sell you BluRay Software. Therefore your Acer will do the basics but not much. You will need to buy a BluRay player. I will not recommend that you buy Cyberlinks as what Acer and Cyberlink are doing is not ok....

Thanks for your suggestions drholm, I have got the prob sorted, but there was a lot of hassle that could have been avoided. It turned out that the basic of the problem was hitting the 'enter' button instead of the 'play' button. I'll explain: The problem that I had initially was that when I put a bluray disc in the Acer 8920 Acer Arcade opened up and everything seemed to be working as normal; then the transport function buttons were displayed - 'play' etc. but when you hit 'play' nothing happened; I was on to Acer support who offered all kinds of suggestions inc upgrading to latest version of Acer Acade, all to no avail; next I was sent to a local Acer repair centre who, later rang me to tell me that they had fitted a new Bluray player, updated drivers and that thee machine was ok; took it home and tried it again, same problem; brought it back, next day they told me that there was nothibg wrong and to lift my machine. I had to have a strong argument with the guy on the phone before he agreed to have one of the techs. demonstrate to me that it was going. which he did. He talked me all through th e steps that I had gone through but, only I had caught on that he hit the 'enter' button instead of 'play' on the transport buttons I would have been none the wiser.
