I have been a proud owner of call of duty black ops ever since it came out , and this problem has always been present - I LAG . I absolutely adore this game, and i play it all the time, so i hope this problem can be solved...

I tried today to run the single player and then quickly press ctrl-alt-del to see the processes tab. It turns out that my CPU is running 89-94% all the time when BO is running.... Even though my CPU is a great one.

Obviously this is a problem. So my question is: what should i do?
Overclock?
New CPU?
Black ops is just ****** up/ not my fault?

I need an expert opinion here...

Just to note, i AM willing to purchase a new processor (if there even is one more powerful) if necessary.

And as usual, sys-specs are shown below:

I used to have issues with that game too... Had 4 gigs ddr2... Phenom 9950 I believe OC'd to 3.0 (although at least 2 yes old) but my replacement/backup vid card I was being forced to use (nvidia 240gt) was what was absolutely failing my framerate- nothing I could do would bring up framerate aside from putting everything on low. Also, like you I run on a 1080p monitor resolution (1900x1200)... And I've found that that resolution Aline can be taxing on aging video cards.

Moral of the story- I think it's your video card that is bottlenecking your performance...although that is a bit... "hard" for your processor to be working....are you closing all your other programs before running it?

I replaced my video card this week with an nvidia 560 gtx fermi (MSI has a sweet version with very nice cooling and pre-OC'd) and I run everything on full at pretty much "max" fps.... Including black ops, crysis, etc.

My graphics card is the bottleneck? Is there any way i can check if thats true?

BTW: I was browsing thru my task manager, and i noticed that something called "System IdleP.." is taking like 99 of something from my cpu, whereas everything else takes 0. Anyone got an idea what it might be? :O

I will search for some way to observe my GPU ad CPU while black ops is on

Hey mate,

Your system is simular to mine and I don't have any lag at all. However, I play it at 1440 x 900 resolution which is the best my monitor can get.

Try turning the resolution down a notch and see if that solved it (I doubt you'd see a huge amount of difference).

it's totally normal, System idle is when the CPU is not working, so when the System idle is at 99 it means that the CPU is 1% working or in other words it's "in idle mode"

let's check if this could be a heating issue
download SIW from my sig, open it and choose "Sensors" under "Hardware"
check the temps.
play the game for about 10 to 15 mins or when the lag starts, minimize it and recheck the temperatures again.
please post both temp states (idle, under stress)

Aight, i played for about 20min, and the temperatures are:

Cpu core 1: Idle 30 celsius -- after 20mins, 40 celsius
Core 2: Idle 30 celsius -- after 20min 41 celsius

GPU core: Idle 40 celsus, underer stress 60 celsius

These numbers look pretty low to me, but i can still notice that my framerate is way below 30, i can see it refreshing the screens... So what causes this? Should i maybe play for a few hours to see if the heat goes up?

-------

Although, i did notice something out of ordinary - above the intel core i5 title there is a component/title called "Windbond W83627 DHG", and under that something called "AUXTIN" Is 96 celsius degrees hot...

What are these "windbond" and "AUXTIN" ? Why is the auxtin so hot?

And another Q: Is there any program that with i can see my exact framerate while playing?

The i5 you have is a decent gaming cpu. The only thing you didn't list is your power supply. These issues could be caused by insufficient power or a crappy power supply. List your voltages from your bios and give make and model # of your PSU. here is a free win7 tweaker that will help you determine what you can shut off.

I also recommend to use Fraps to see how much fps are you getting
if it really is below 30, it could be a driver issue
so use Revo Uninstaller from my to uninstall your current video card driver and remove all its remaining when prompted
restart your PC and install an older driver version and see how things go

i tested fraps now, and it seems that when nothing is happening, my framerate is 40-50. This is good. However, when there is even a slight explosion (car explosion, grenade) The framerate drops to 20. If its a big explosion, it drops to 8-15.

I guess it doesnt suck, but it is still worse than what i get in mw2 (complete smoothness). Its really weird, i can obviously see that when i move my crosshair, it is not the usual 100% crisp smoothness that i get in cod4 and mw2. But i guess BO is just alot more CPU heavy..

I guess the patch i downloaded for black ops before playing has some effect too (maybe)

Black opps is a demanding game. I can't crank it with my i7 and 2 5770's. Turn down corpses to small A.A. and A.F. shut off. If it still lags shut off shader warming. I have found this game runs better at 1920 X 1080 then lower resolutions. Also set "sinc every frame" to no.
