I downloaded bitbleach on my pclinuxos - and lost firefox, synaptic, and thunderbird that I know of. I can access the internet on Konqueror, so all is not lost - but I have no idea where to start to reconnect the lost files. I'm ignorant when it comes to fixing things and need help in the most basic form, can anybody point me at a starting place or to an internet site. I am leaning toward downloading them again and reinstalling. Any other suggestions?? Thank you.

Welcome to TSF!!

I would recommend that you start with uninstalling it. That way you can hopefully get your stuff back to normal. Can you tell me a little bit about what bitbleach does or is for? I am not familiar with it.

Bleachbit should not cause that problem.

Open a terminal and as root type

synaptic

That may start the package manager and then you can install firefox, thunderbird etc.
If the terminal says "command not found" then type

apt-get install synaptic


That should restore synaptic and then you can install your other missing packages.
