I have been going out of my mind trying to track down a BIOS upgrade for my Acer Aspire 7100 w/ V66M motherboard so that I can install Windows 2000. Acer no longer supports the Aspire series and offers no futher info. I have been all over the net and have come up empty except for several .bin files found at :

ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/desktop/mainboard/V66M/

There are no instructions posted there and I'm not sure which file to use or how to use it. I know I need to use a boot diskette and some version of the Aflash utility but am not sure what version or what the correct syntax and procedure should be.

Given the fact that a bad flash will turn the thing into junk I'm being extra careful.

Any help appreciated.

Mike

Well, the .BIN is what you need, but doing a quick net search I couldn't determine which bios you have. Does AMI or AWARD ring a bell? Try here first Here
and please post if you find it first.

acer bios update

yes mike - I feel your pain - I too went thruthe same ordeal until...

accidentaly 2k got loaded onto my D drive as a dual boot system/

Worked for me and operates flawlessly - give it try.

The bios update I believe is an urban legend - doesn't exist.

I am looking for a 7100 motherboard as mine took a dump whilst putting in another firewire card. I've got a nasty gateway board in now - I miss my cool purple acer intro screen.

lol with your 2k install - remember -dual boot choice & load onto D
