Im having issues with my BIOS, at least so all the support pages say, they say I have very low system video and shared memory, this cauising me to have the problem I posted about here, about my video card not working properly, now.... the question is, how can one hope to remedy this problem?

wha ver. bios are you running ?

maybe it needs to be updated...I've read on ur other post that you've updated all the hardware cept your mobo... maybe it would be good idea to flash your bios..its a really "sticky" process and if you dont know what you are doing, you might end up with less than you have right now...

I've successfully updated my BIOS quite a few times. However, the last time I did it the computer just died. It just plain wouldn't start and I couldn't do anything about it.

It was the only time I've had to take the computer to get it repaired. I think the problem has to be overcome by firing up the computer with a known good BIOS chip and then, with the computer running, unplugging it and putting the corrupt one back in. From there the chip can be re-flashed and all will be well again. Does that sound right?

Unless you have the facilities to do something like that there is, as far as I know, no way to get back into the computer to do anything once the BIOS update has gone wrong.

As long as the computer works I won't be updating the BIOS again!

In the repair shop they suspected that the BIOS file I'd used might have had a virus. It hadn't come from the motherboard manufacturers.

This is the reason that I keep an EPROM/FLASH programmer handy, I can remove the chip and cook the BIOS directly.

I didn't even know there was such an item, so there's something I've learned already during the short time I've been here. I did a search on the EPROM/FLASH programmer so I could see what one looked like.

I expect the shop might have used one to sort out my dead computer rather than the way I thought they might have.

I think I just read about that way somewhere and assumed that's what they must have done.

Out in the real world of electrical engineering, a programmer is used heavily. Many products are manufactured with FLASH/EPROM, and they're pre-loaded before being installed in the product.
