I have a GA-MA69VM-S2 motherboard and a phenom x4 9850 cpu which is on the support list of the mentioned mobo. The problem is that the mobo probably has bios version F2, but my cpu is only supported on bios version F10E. When I insert the cpu and turn on the pc the fans start spinning, the monitor doesn't turn on and there are no beeps. So my question is, is this normal for a gigabyte mobo and do i have to use a cpu which is supported by the F2 bios to update it to F10E or is my mobo damaged ? I know that on asus motherboards i can turn on the pc even if the bios doesn't support the cpu, it would only show up as unknown processor until i update the bios.

You have to update the BIOS to support the cpu. Put the updated BIOS on a usb stick and on boot up enter the bios and in bios press F8 to start the update procedure. Direct it to the file on the usb stick and update (DO NOT INTERUPT OR REMOVE THE USB STICK during the update). After the update press ESC and then ENTER to exit Q-Flash and the system will restart. As the system reboots, press DELETE to enter BIOS Setup. Select Load Optimized Defaults and press ENTER to load BIOS defaults.

Id try this procedure but nothing is showing up on the monitor. I tested the cpu in another motherboard and it works so the problem can only be a damaged mobo or the bios.

Thank you for the quick replies, this was confusing me because some motherboards would work even if the current version of bios didn't support the cpu, but I guess its not like that on all motherboards.
