just bought a computer off of Ebay without a OS, the computer beeps 6 times and doesnt even give me bios options so i can install a operateing system im planning on placeing Linux on here. Any suggestions, Ive tried the battery and jumper no luck. The screen is black even though the computer turns on?

Can you start in safe mode?
Six beeps doesn't sound good - depending on who the manufacturer is.
Have a look at this Bios beep codes.

no i cant get into safe mode because the computer turns on but the screen remains blank. nothing happens it just turns on. I just bought this computer of off Ebay...Came with no operating system so i thought i would slap linux on it but now I see bios cant boot into safe mode nothing but the beeps.. the list you gave me indicates that it is a motherboard issue i hope not it said gaurantee against DOA...its a Dell Optiplex Gx150...

If you got a guarantee with it I would definately contact the seller.
Or even if you didn't, actually.

so you dont know what the problem may be,, i just checked the memory its a compag stick model 323013-001
6 beeps indicates a memory problem...thats what the dell site said
