My husband's notebook does not show the background images I use on our website. The site shows up perfectly well in both Explorer 8 and Firefox (any version). We both use Windows XP and Explorer 8 and the configuration appears the same. His notebook is Samsung NC20 with 1.75 Gb Ram and 2Gb virtual memory. Mine has 1.99 Gb and uses no virtual memory. What else can I check?

You don't say which SP of XP is on each computer. Do they match? You of course have VM and when you surpass RAM it doesn't affect the problem you pose. It sounds as though you designed the site so try .png rather than .jpg.

Thanks for your reply,
Both notebooks have XP (version 2002) SP 3. (My notebook has more memory (1.99GB), but does not use virtual memory, as it has a small flash drive).
My husband's notebook has 1.75 Gb RAM and uses 2 GB virtual memory. We have checked Windows colours and everything I can think of. I will try whether he can see a .png backgound image on the net, but other people can all see the JPGs,

Also see if the site shows in other browsers like Opera or Chrome.

Using a .png as background image made no difference whatsoever. I tried viewing the site in Firefox - other people viewed it on an I-phone and a tablet. It worked fine for them, but my husband still cannot see the background images. Also the colours specified in CSS didn't show properly: a dark red border came out as black, initial letters specified as dark blue show black on his notebook. I am at a loss what the problem could be,

I knew FF didn't work in his, that's why I mentioned the other two browsers. I want to make sure the issue is somewhere other than in the browser(s).

No, he doesn't use Firefox, he use Internet Explorer. I use both, so I can check my website in both. But it does not seem to have to do anything with the choice of browser.

Still test on Opera and Chrome so we can move on to other possible solutions.

Fact is he would n't want to use a different browser than IE anyway, not being all that IT-savvy. And I checked all the settings on his notebook as well - removing a compatibiIity setting he had inadvertedly changed. That did not make any difference either. 'll ask my friends what operating system they used on the tablet and I-phone.

While they're checking, any chance parental controls are activated on his computer? PM the Website URL to me.

My friend just wrote: I use it with Mozilla, Microsoft Explorer and Google Chrome on the pc. In the Iphone I use Safari that is the official browser for the I phones and in the Samsung Galaxy Tablet I use
the Android browser.

No parental controls are not ticked either. Can it be something physical like a ffaulty controller? However, colour behave normally when he uses Word, so that seems unlikely,

My contact used it with Mozilla, Microsoft Explorer and Google Chrome on the pc.
In the Iphone she uses Safari that is the official browser for the I phones and in the Samsung Galaxy Tablet she used the Android browser.
Yes, I checked the parental controls as well - no they are not ticked either. Can it be something physical, a faulty controller perhaps? Colours do behave normally, however, when using Word

First try IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Restore Defaults. If it doesn't do the trick then run his without add-ons. If still N/G then:
It will take a little time but since a FF installation "borrowed" some details from the original IE on his computer, you need to do a side by side comparison of the IE settings on yours vs. his. Pay particular attention to the Security section.
Finally try turning off the AV or Firewall if yours is different than his. If that works we'll check those settings.
