I am a college student and was given an assignment that requires me to use automatic pagination, and I need to include a page number on all pages but the cover page, and so far I have been really unsuccessful and when I add a page number in the header (and it has to be in the header) it shows on all pages of the document. This has to be turned in by tomorrow night, and if anyone can tell me how to complete this task, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi danyelyvonne,

Assuming this is for MS Word 97-2003, go to File|Page Setup|Layout and click on 'Differrent First Page'. Then go to your document's 2nd page header and insert the page # field. While you're there, you might want to format the page # to start from 1.

The process for Word 2007 is similar, but you access the 'Differrent First Page' setting via Page Layout|Page Setup > Click Page Setup (bottom right corner) > Layout, instead.
