Automatic network mapping

Im looking for a free solution to dynamically create an understandable/readable network map. At the moment I am using visio for a static map as it can be easy to follow and I have tried many automatic solutions which come out like a dogs dinner e.g. spiceworks etc.

Has anyone come across a decent open source / free solution??
