I recently got an old HP d530 C from a friend's roommate. When I got the computer, everything ran fine (including the sound) but it was slow and didn't have much hard drive space. I loaned the computer to another friend who is handy with hardware, and he installed some extra ram and hard drive space, and then I reinstalled windows to clean up any software issues this computer may have had. Ever since I reinstalled windows, the sound has not worked at all. My computer does not recognize any "audio device" and the device manager shows yellow !'s next to ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller*, video controller, and video controller (VGA compatible).
I believe the original owner of this computer was a gamer who upgraded some of the audio/video hardware and possibly the drivers are not working because they did not come with the computer? I already tried downloading the drivers of the HP website this computer. I don't know how to tell what kind of sound card I have since the computer isn't recognizing it at all, and I wouldn't know what to do if I opened the computer up. My device manager does show a Creative SB Live gameport, but I don't know what that is exactly, and according to the manager it is working fine.
OH, and as for the ethernet, currently, I am using the internet via a USB wireless adapter.
I'll be happy to provide any more information you need to help me.
Thanks!
Brandy
