I was planning on buying a 8600GTS sometime this week until my friend matt showed up with a, what i think is in good condition, x700 pro. It's pci-e and he wants 50 bucks for it.

I'm willing to take a gfx cut if thats a deal. So would a good condition x700 pro for 50 dollars be pretty good or should i just skip out and buy the 8600GTS? I was thinking i could just buy the x700 for cheap now and upgrade if i needed it.

The 8600gt will out perform the x700. For $50 now, I don't think it would be worth it if you only have to upgrade again soon. The x700 was a little less (performance wise) than a 6600GT, the 8600 imho is a better deal.

I vote with TWA on this one. The used x700 card is not worth $50, nor will you be pleased with it's performance if you game much. The 8600GT is a much better card.
