Ok, so I had this computer built for me, originally with an ATI card, but that was switched to an Nvidea. Now, very VERY frequently my computer totally locks up (no looping sounds or anything) and in the Event Viewer, everytime, it says

The ATI Smart service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

This makes me wonder, did something go wrong with the ATI uninstall? Why would the computer still be looking for the ATI Smart service (whatever that is.) Most importantly, what can I do about these freakin' crashes?
:4-dontkno

Thanks,
wiggin.

Are the ATI Catalyst drivers still in the control panel, add/remove programs?

It sounds like you have a motherboard with an ATI chipset.
You must have uninstalled the chipset drivers with the
video drivers.
Reinstalling your motherboard drivers should correct
the problem.
SMART=system moitoring and reporting tool.
