I have run into a problem when trying to use new DVD media.

I use a SONY DRU-120A on a Win2K Pentium4 machine. I use B's GOLD to burn discs. The system originally worked fine with older DVD media which was rated at 2.4X burn speed. Now, using several brands of DVD media, I get the message: "ATAPI error: No disc in drive", Error number 2a023011

When I insert a Verbatim DVD+RW disc, all works well.

My burner doesn't seem to see the more recent 4X to 8X speed DVD media.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

ATAPI error: "No disc in drive"

Thanks Goliath,

I tried your suggestion.

I had downloaded and installed this update before posting my problem. Just to be sure, I did it again.

The error still appears as it did before.

No disc in drive

Thank you Dai.

After reading your list of error codes and talking with various tech support specialists from several media producing companies, I am reaching the conclusion that my Sony DVD burner is not capable of "seeing" or writing to the new 4X and faster DVDs. Perhaps there is a chemical difference in the new dye layers.

Before I buy a new burner, I will try to contact Sony directly about this matter. (Anyone know which eMail to use for Sony's DVD burner tech support?)

And, can someone recommend a DVD burner that can handle both DVD+R and DVD-R in 4X and 8X formats, and is compatible with B's Gold 3.33?

Thank you.

No disc in drive - Problem solved!

To whom it may concern:

I bought a new burner. Problem solved!

I guess that my old one was obsolete. Even with a firmware upgrade, it couldn't see the new media.

Moore's Law at work.

Thanks to those who offered suggestions.
