Hi all,

I have just installed a Asus P5K mobo.
Although this is my first time assembling a computer, I am surprised that my computer is up and running from the first time I powered on!

There are some remaining issues which I hope you can help me with:
1. I do not get any audio
Drivers have been installed. I see a "realtek driver HD", a "ATI function driver" and a "Legacy audio drivers".
The volume icon is there and system says that everything is running but I can't get any music out of my loud speakers...

Any ideas where to look for?

2. I am also a little bit disappointed about the speed of the system. This supposed to be a system which should be about x times faster than my old (blown up) computer.

Any suggestions here?

I appreciate all your help!!

Regards,
GD

Hi GD, and welcome to TSF!

For the audio, first double check that nothing is muted. Then go into the Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager in the Control Panel and see if it detects the speaker connection in the Audio I/O section.

As for the performance, I would defragment your the hard drive. Very often the C: drive is very fragmented even on a fresh install of Windows, so I always defragment right after.

What are your full specs?

There is another thing.

Speedfan is showing some strange readings:
HD0: 24°C
CPU: 16°C
System: 33°C
AUX: 119°C (!!)

What could this last reading be?
It seems to be some kind of default reading - it shows also when I just start the system. He may not be detecting this AUX, whatever it may be...

Thanks

TheMat, you have put me on the right track.
The speaker connection was recognized by the Audio I/O but apparently it was muted by the master volume which was hidden by the system. Going into the advanced mode, I was able to see it and unmute it! I can hear music now! Thanks!

I'll start the defragmentation to see whether it can speed up the system.

Any idea about the AUX: 119°C? There is no smoke coming out of my computer ;-)

SpeedFan sometimes incorrectly detects whether it is a thermoresistor or diode sensor. Sometimes you can correct it by manually setting it in SpeedFan, but sometimes it is just detecting a sensor that doesn't exist.

This may be the case with the CPU and AUX temp. I would double check the temps in the BIOS. If you want to play around with SpeedFan to get it to work I can help with that as well.
