Switched off onboard wireless adapter.Installed Netgear WN311T wireless adapter (PCI) on MB. Installed software and noticed red AI warning LED was lit on MB( above PCI slot). Tried reseating card and unistalling reinstalling software. Light remained lit. Updated bios to latest (9.????) and rebooted, still had warning light. Took out netgear card switched onboard adapter on in bios.

The problem I now have is with both XP pro and Vista ultimate on seperate hard drives. This is not a twin boot but 2 seperate drives. These are individually booted (one on the other off). Now when I look for wireless networks to connect to all I see is the one network, my existing one. I am using a dual band netgear router and other PC's in the house show both bands as seperate routers plus other routers in the neighborhood, mine shows only the one.

I have drawn the conclusion that this is not an operating system error. In all probability it is user error but I am stumped. Is there a setting in the bios I am missing . Is this a known bios error? Any advice gratefully accepted

looking like configuration error to me .... driver problem

I am "guessing" you will be forced to perform a killdisk wipe and OS reinstall ....... try something diff...... either way the approach you are trying is not working

Everything was fine, I have now taken out the card and last night moved the case out. I did see other networks around me but the result of all this is a weaker signal for the onboard adapter. I have tried several different drivers and 3 different bios from Asus all with the same result. It is working but not as it was.

Another thought. Put it back like it was when it was working and do a system restore. There might be something in a MS update or something that has altered things. Hey, just trying to find a solution so stabbing in the dark on this one.

I just had another thought. My P5K deluxe wi/fi board detects a network quite well without the little antenna they give you to use. I am using this computer right next to the router at this time, so I am using the direct connect and not using the wireless feature and have that turned off. However, if you have the antenna and are not using it, might help the signal.

I have another board (not P5K) in the other end of the house and have to put the antenna up to get any decent signal. Might be worth experimenting with that issue. Or, you could consider using a USB wireless device and with the wire they include, move it up higher than the computer for a better signal.

I was playing aroud last night and did put another antennae on and it has brought another wireless in form outside. So all is back to normal, it seems. I am not though getting all the networks I did and it is as if this adapter is somehow weaker. It also does not show the wireless n section on the router (probably cos it is a wireless g adapter). N is working fine as I use it on my mac. Maybe the power to the USB has been altered with the change in bios. I don't know. I did a system restore using acronis and this did not help.
