Hello,
My specs are Intel P4 LGA775 640 3.2GHz 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache
Antec Performance SOHO File Server
Antec Phantom 500w power supply
Asus P5GDC DLX mobo
PALIT nVidia Geforce 6600GT 256mb PCI Express
Kingston HyperX 1Gb PC3200 dual chan
WinXP pro corp
Maxtor 120GB SATA
IBM 80GB IDE HD
Plextor 716A 16X dvd burner
sony dvd rom

I just built/upgraded to this system and im having trouble formatting/installing my IBM HD as the primary... well kinda... i noticed this board has only one primary IDE and two IDE raids (Pri_Raid 1 and SEC_Raid 1) my question is when i hook my IBM 80gb to the primary IDE it boots into my old windows xp from my old computer perfectly but it will not let me format it for some reason.. i keep getting BSOD with ((((Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area))) the way i have it set up is i have my plextor and my sony on one cable on the Primary IDE and i have my IBM 80gb on the Pri_Raid 1 and the bios recognizes it but will not let me boot or format it as well.. my windows xp cd boots up and everything and then starts to load the files and when it gets to (( windows is starting))) and then push F3 to install windows it tells me that it cant find any hard drives!!!! Does this board not support one drive or do i have to have a raid IDE in order to use my IBM 80gb? i dont understand the layout of this board in terms of the location of the IDE ports.. cuz the bottom two cannot reach my dvdrom drives at all and I cant put the Plextor and the IBM 80gb on the same ribbon cuz it wont reach both unless i take it out manually and hold it in my hand next to each other, which defeats the purpose of the case...>>> plus that is the only way it actually boots into my old win xp setup but it stil wont let me format either in windows or
DOS can i run the IBM on the Pri_raid 1 as the primary master? how would i set this up without messing with my maxtor SATA 120 which has a bunch of files that i need? I was thinking is the best thing to do is get rid of the IBM 80gb and get another SATA HD and just run my windows xp off that? please help! thanks!

I am not sure I understand what you are trying to do. I don't think you can format a HDD from windows running off of the HDD you want to format.

If you are trying to reformat(wipe clean) your IBM IDE HDD, then try connecting it to PRI_IDE, connect your Plextor as SEC_IDE, remove the SATA and all other drives for now. Rearrange your Boot Order in BIOS to reflect your changes. Then use your WinXP disc in the Plextor to boot from and format the IBM HDD through that. Then you can reinstall windows or just use it as a data disc after partitioning or reallocating the drive in >start>programs>administrative tools>computer management>disc management.

For your hardware, IMHO, I would recommend running your OS off the faster SATA drive and using the IDE drive for data storage. You could do this by transfering the SATA data to the IDE HDD after formatting the IDE and reattaching the SATA HDD, then boot from the WinXP disc. Then you can format the SATA drive and install WinXP on it.

Let us know what you decide and how it worked for you.

Prob with P5GDC Deluxe

Hi,
I'm Rik from Italy.
I have some problems with my new mb.
My 2 hard disk EIDE dosn't work with my 2 optical device (CD and DVD)
I put my 2 hd on a Primary IDE channel (Master and Slave) and my optical device in Primary RAID. Is right?

I have also 2 HD SATA but at the moment are not plugged.
Can I configure my bios in some particolar way?
Thanks to all
Rik

Welcome  . Could you be more specific about your problems? Do the HDD work at all? Do the OpticalDiscDrives work at all? What MB do you have?Connecting your OpticalDiscDrives to the PRI_RAID is connecting them through the Promise(..or which?) controller. That should be OK if you have enabled the Promise controller in your BIOS and installed the proper drivers for it.
huh, got kinda the same problem...

I got a P4, 3,00 GHz
2048 RAM
Mainboard: Asus P5GDC Deluxe
unfortunately I still got my WinXP (incl. SP2) running on my ATA-HDD.
So I need the WD 120GB HDD to be my first drive. Second HDD is auso a WD with 80 GB which is on the same cable as my "main" drive. They are correctly jumpered with master and slave.

My problem is, if I connect my two HDDs to the Primary IDE and the two CD-ROMs (a pretty new Philipps and an older DVD-Rom) to the Prim. Raid,
the mainboard recognizes my two HDDs but no CD-Rom. If I switch the cables,
(CD-Roms on Primary IDE and HDDs on Primary Raid) the 2 CD-Roms are recognized and none of the HDDs.

To connect I used the cables which came with the mainboard (HDD-Cable for the HDD-Drives and CD-Rom CAble for the CD-Roms).
They are all well jumpered... hmm, could you give me please some more information about the "Promise"-Thing you mentioned above? Maybe this could solve my problem...

thx a lot for help! please auso write me a mail on [email protected] ! tusen takk!

greets from switzerland

hmm, the problem's getting worse...

ok, in addition: now I connected my two CD-Rom Drives with an Asus HDD-Cable on Primary Raid1 on my Asus P5GDC Deluxe. The funny thing is, the mainboard recognizes them now when I start the computer. I can't find them in the BIOS, but on the starting screen: Searching IDE-Devices it says
1. Philipps DVD-Rom UDMA2
2. JVLS ..... UDMA2
3. No Device
4. No Device

Unfortunately my WinXP doesn't seem to find them. :-(

I don't understand anything anymore... :-((

Go into your bios and change your ITE8212F controler to [standard IDE] then install you HDD (with the 80 wire cables) to cable select plug the master into the black connector the slave into the gray connector and the blue to the motherboard pri_raid , the cdroms can be plugged in to the pri IDE.
another, "old" problem appears...

Hei, thx for the help, I made sure that in my BIOS the ITE8212F Controller is on "IDE MODE". I put the main HDD on the grey cable and the slave on the black one (ad: lol, I always had the main HDD on the black cable and slave on the grey, now I switched it). Now the system recognizes the 2 HDD! :)
It seems to work, but when the system tries to load WinXP I get a blue screen for about half a second saying that there's an error somewhere ( I already had this error before. :-( )
My computer's reseting then and loads again. I tried to start XP in every way (Secure mode, secure mode with netword and so on).

What do you suggest, re-install WinXP?!

ad: when I try to install WinXP from the CD-Rom, the install manager tells me, that there where no HDD detected. :-(
hmm, maybe I just install one of my S-ATA HDD as main drive. But will the system recognize the other HDDs when XP is finally running? that's pretty important to me. :-(

greets and thx!

When you are entering the XP setup and when it prompts a message asking you to press F6 to install any third party SCSI devices, Insert a floppy with the ITE812F driver for XP to recognize the hardrives on there if you are planning to install XP on the IDE Hardrives. Also, if you have image devices such as Daemon Tools on your current OS, REMOVE THEM SOMEHOW!!!
