let me give a little more detail.

I have processor in place, no memory, no video card, no drives, the CPU fan runs at power up, but I get no post beep from the mobo. Does it sound reasonable to replace the bios chip with one that has the latest bios version and see if it will boot.

Even when I had all hardware attached I got no response from the system, just the CPU fan running.

The Bios chip shouldn't have to be replaced. You can use the old CPU to flash the Bios to a version that accepts the new PSU and then install the new CPU.

I have been to ASUS website and the processor I have is supported in bios version 1008. The motherboard I bought new and I have no way to tell what version bios it has, they start around version 1005. I do not have a different processor to put in its place to update the bios with. This is a new build. I do have a speaker attached to the mobo, also looks like there is an onboard speaker.

MoBo ASUS P5gd2 Premium
Processor P4 775 3.6Ghz
Geoforce Video Card
4GB 533mghz DDR2 memory
2 TB Sata HD

I have only processor, cpu fan, 1 stick of memory installed at this time. When I power up the system should give some sort of post beep indicating a problem. I get nothing, just the cpu fan runs.
