My ASUS N55SF laptop will not run games/ play videos as smoothly as it should do when plugged into my charger but when my laptop is unplugged it runs fine.

When trying to play a game (Football Manager) without my charger my computer performance is rated as 5 star but when plugged in its rated 1/2 of a star.

It gets hotter and noisy when plugged in

Replaced battery and charger about a month ago but that didnt fix the problem.

Really confused with this issue, any help would be appreciated.

Hi xFloody,

That's a bit weird I must say. Hmmm....since you said you replaced both the battery and charger about a month ago, may I ask, is the AC adapter from Asus? Or did you purchased a compatible brand (e.g. Targus)?

Hi, when did you last clean out the air vents and fan with a can of compressed air as heat can cause odd behaviour. Has the machine ever had a drop or heavy bump as that could affect the motherboard, possibly damaging a trace causing power issues.

Edit I should have also mentioned checking the DC jack port for any damage or if it is loose.

The AC adapter I bought isnt a ASUS one, just one from Amazon which was listed for my model. My previous charger was the one I got with the laptop and the problem was still there

How do I go about checking the DC jack?

Not cleaned the air and vents so I will look into opening it up and doing that

The only damage done was when my harddrive got corrupted and I had to replace it

Hi xFloody,

It's possible that the DC Jack has gone bad and needs to be replaced. May I ask, do you if you have warranty on your laptop at all? You can most likely check on Asus's website. If so, call it in and have them replaced the DC jack. Replacing the DC jack requires taking the laptop apart all the way to the motherboard and installing a new DC jack requires soldering. Hope everything works out well for you.

Try replacing the Charger with an actual ASUS Factory AC adapter. When you get it, make sure you test the DC output voltage with a Multimeter for 18Vdc-20Vdc as almost all laptops run at that input voltage. Check the bottom of your laptop for the label speccing the required input voltage and amperage.

Here's how to test it:

Cheers!
